At the recently concluded Yaoi-Con 2005, Digital Manga Publishing announced four new yaoi manga titles. Couple DMP's announcement with a similar release from Central Park Media's Be Beautiful imprint, and it becomes obvious that there is growing interest here in the U.S. in the yaoi genre -- homosexually-themed stories of love between impossibly gorgeous male characters written and drawn by (primarily) female creators for a female audience. The yaoi genre has provided a niche in the American manga market that smaller publishers such as CPM and DMP can exploit (though manga mega-publisher Tokyopop entered the fray this month with the launching of its BLU imprint).
The four new titles announced by DMP include: Little Butterfly by Takanaga Hinako, You & Harujion (Kimi to Harujion) by Kinofecala Keiko, Lost Boys by Itsuki Kaname and Same Cell Organism (Dousaibou Seibutsu) by Yumeka Sumomo. DMP also plans to publish English language versions of the Don't Worry Mama series of novels by Narise Konohara and the Kiss of Fire artbook, a collection of illustrations by Nitta Yuuka from her popular Haru wo Daiteita (Embracing Love) series.
