Comic books are fertile ground, too By MATT FURMAN
Throw a stone in a comic book store and you'll hit a zombie fan — the fantastic nature of zombie stories makes them ripe comic book subjects.
A handful of new zombie comics have emerged, but Robert Kirkman's ongoing series "The Walking Dead," a story about desperate human survivors and their ever-changing shelters, is the clear front runner in terms of sales.
At Comics World in Chambersburg Mall, store owner John Mizzer III said he sells an average of one collected volume of "The Walking Dead" a week. "It's extremely character-driven," Mizzer said. "It's about people from every walk of life, and we get to watch how they deal with this horrible situation. Or not deal with it."
It's this latter sense of futility that appeals to zombie fan Wes Booher.
"Everyone's always trying to figure out how to stop them, and no one can," the 22-year-old Three Springs resident said. "The hordes just keep coming. And in the end, almost everyone dies."
